Logline
Five real young Jews, from five different countries, give up everything familiar to voluntarily serve in the Israeli military with no family already there.

The Idea
A "lone soldier" is the Israeli military's own term for it: someone serving without parents, without siblings, without the built-in support system every other recruit has waiting for them on leave. These five chose it anyway — left college, left careers, left the language they grew up speaking, to serve a country that, for some of them, they'd never even visited a year before.

LONE SOLDIERS follows them in their own words: what actually called them to do this, what it cost them and the families they left behind, and what they found in themselves once the roof came off — the loneliness, the pride, the specific ache of a holiday spent with someone else's family because yours is an ocean away. No narrator, no argument. Just five real journeys, and the country trying, imperfectly, to become family to people who gave up their real one to get there.

Every project on the Yellow Star Films slate finds a different entry point into the same mission. LONE SOLDIERS finds it in the most literal form of commitment there is — showing up, alone, for something bigger than yourself.
