Logline
A small group of gay friends in Tel Aviv chase a shared, slightly absurd dream: building the country's next great dating app.

The Idea
It's a comedy first — a tight friend group, a terrible business plan, investor meetings that go sideways, an app that might actually work if any of them agreed on anything. MATZAH BALLS is funny because these people are funny, not because it's trying to make a point.

But it arrives at a moment when misinformation about Israel is loud, and movements like Queers for Palestine are among the loudest voices claiming to speak for exactly the kind of people this show is actually about. MATZAH BALLS answers none of it directly. It doesn't need to. It just shows a thriving, proud community living exactly as it lives — funny, stylish, heartbreaking in the ways real friendships are — and lets the fact of that be the whole argument, without ever making the argument out loud.

Why This Story
Every project on the Yellow Star Films slate finds a different entry point into the same mission. MATZAH BALLS finds it through pure joy and specificity — the best rebuttal to a flattened narrative is just showing people the real, messy, hilarious thing.
